  • Werewolves in the Bible

Yes, believe it or not, you did, in fact, read that title correctly.  It is absolutely amazing what you can learn in church the day after Halloween.  For the record, this story does NOT come from some random internet forward.  This is a true story that happened at my church this week.

A group of children of around five years of age were talking during their sunday School class the Sunday following Halloween.  Somehow, the topic of werewolves came up and one child asserted that there were no werewolves in the Bible.  The son of the student minister chimed in.

"There are too werewolves in the Bible!" he said.  The teacher, trying to restor order to the classroom turned to him.

"I really don't think there are werewolves in the Bible." she told him with a smile.  After all, she didn't want to come down on the child too harshly for his obvious error right?

It was then the the young child came back with his reply. "There are werewolves in the Bible!  Even Jesus said:

     'BeWARE WOLVES in sheeps clothing."

In case you have not hear me say it enough times... I love little kids!!!  Some of them come up with the best one-liners!  Seriously, you can't make this stuff up!  (and if you did it wouldn't be funny)

  • Just a Few Updates

So my life has recently taken a turn for the busy side.  My week of training, the week before last, was a blast!  It was both challenging but fun.  The whole group of us that were training together really clicked.  I learned a lot.  I got the chance to attend a harvest festival with a rather large group of people last week.  I went with a friend who introduced me to his family.  His wife warned me that their youngest daughter was shy and not to take offense that she never got near strangers... clearly she had no idea who she was talking to hehehe.  In a matter of a couple hours, I was tossing her around and carrying her on my shoulders like most kids.  Her mom was surprised and was like "That was fast.  So much for being shy."  I laughed knowingly.  Amusingly enough, I was telling my mom this story and she saw the end coming and even said "She doesn't know you very well does she?"  Great minds... let me tell ya.

There was a load of pumpkins that were being given away too... one per family.  Since I was the only person from my family there, I had the opportunity to make another child quite happy.  It was great!  She kept asking if it was really ok... if I really minded her getting my pumpkin... if I was serious... I am SO glad my friend mentioned the idea to me!

After all that, there was this giant screen set up outside in an open field (like the size screen you see in theatres).  As they began playing the movie Bolt, it began to rain.  I proceeded to watch the movie... outside... in the rain... and it was fun!  I was actually disappointed when the rain stopped 1/3 of the way through the movie.  Had it rained the whole time it would have made a better story.  I did find the title of the chosen movie a bit humorous though, considering the weather.  Good times!  It reminds me of the time I went to a parade in the pouring rain... best parade I ever went to!  ...but that is a story for another time.

Enough about me.  How is everyone else doing?

  • In Memory

Happy birthday Grandmother.  Today you would have been 80.

One year ago today was my grandmother's last birthday.  We had celebrated with her at Olive Garden (her favorite resturaunt).  We went to supper there last night in memory.  I arranged for us to even sit at the same table we did one year ago.

  • Having Fun: Whether you like it or not

Today has already been a fun and eventful day.  I went by my favorite Vietnamese resturaunt to pick up some bubble tea in route to the mom and pop sub shop my family meets at nearly every Saturday.  After enjoying my mom's birthday dinner last night, and enjoying the greatest key lime pie this world has yet known, (with the possible exception of the manna that came from heaven during the Exodus hehehe) I could not resist the calling of another of my favorite deserts.

Since my parents were not able to meet with us today, due to a trip to Disney, I knew it would be just me and my granddad.  So it was, that we had a quiet lunch and joked and relaxed, occasionally giving the workers a hard time... as is our custom.  That is why they enjoy us so much after all.

Afterward, I managed to finally convince my granddad into going to a local miniature golf course and playing air hockey against me.  In the 1st game, the final score was 6-7 in favor of my granddad.  Yes, you read that right, he beat me.  If you saw how fast his hands were, you'de understand why.  In the second game, however, I beat him 7-6.  All in all, we were tied up but having used up my dollar of tokens and not wanting to spend more, I was content to leave it at that.

We then went 18 holes in putt-putt/mini-golf.  In the st 9 holes, I was ahead 29 to his 34.  As for the 2nd 9 holes, he had 27 to my 32.  If you run the numbers, you know where I'm going with this.  The final score was that I had a total of 61 and my granddad?  His score was a total of... 61.  In the oddest turn of events, we managed to somehow TIE in everything we put out hand to... and to be perfectly honest, I could not have planned it better myself.  It is all the more memorable to know that the story I walk away with of an afternoon spent with my granddad is one where I can tell how we somehow managed to not completely best the other at anything we competed at.  Good times!

I know I sort of had to convince him to go... he even asked me "Don't you have other friends that would want to go and do that stuff with you?"  To be honest though, there is no one I would rather have spent that time with today than him.  Today was a day for the personal history books.  How could I post on anything else?

Have you ever had someone tell you that you were going to do something and enjoy yourself whether you liked it or not... and then you did?   Or have you ever done that for someone else?  Feel free to share in the comments.
